Common failures and what they usually mean

Each symptom points at a short list of causes, and the diagnosis changes the repair entirely.

• Gaps opening at end joints — often insufficient acclimation, a floor pinched at the perimeter, or heavy furniture restraining a floating field
• Peaking or tenting at seams — the floor has no room to expand, commonly because base shoe was nailed into the plank or the perimeter gap was filled
• Hollow or crunchy spots — a subfloor void or debris left under the plank at install
• Lifting or curling edges at a glue-down floor — an adhesive or moisture problem in the slab beneath
• Isolated deep gouges, burns or pet damage — a straightforward board replacement if attic stock or the same line exists

Board replacement

On a floating click-lock floor, a damaged plank in the field can be cut out and replaced without dismantling the room, using a plunge cut and a re-engaged replacement board bonded at the modified joint. On glue-down, the plank is heated, removed, the substrate cleaned back to bondable, and a new plank set. Both depend on having matching material — keep your leftover boxes.

Water damage

The plank is waterproof; the subfloor under it is not. After a supply-line failure, appliance leak or ice-dam event, the correct sequence is lift the affected field, dry and verify the subfloor with a meter, address the source, then reinstall or replace. Laying new plank over a still-wet subfloor produces mold and a second claim.

When replacement beats repair

If the original install ignored expansion, ran a floating floor thousands of square feet without a break, or sits on a slab that is failing a moisture test, spot repairs will keep coming back. We will tell you when the honest recommendation is a full replacement done correctly, and we will tell you when it is not.

What drives the price

We do not publish square-foot pricing, because a number without your rooms attached to it is guesswork. These are the variables that actually move the figure on this kind of project.

• Diagnosis first — a constraint that can be released costs far less than material replacement
• Number of boards affected and whether matching material exists
• Floating versus glue-down, since glue-down removal is slower and dirtier
• Whether the subfloor beneath needs drying, replacement or re-leveling
• Furniture and appliance removal in the affected field
• Documentation needed if the work is part of an insurance claim

LVP Repair & Replacement is quoted the same way everything else here is: we walk the rooms, measure, check the subfloor, and send a written scope. Licensed and registered, bonded and insured in Idaho, under Idaho contractor registration RCE-57919, and our installation work carries a 1-year craftsmanship warranty.

Questions about repair & replacement

I do not have leftover planks. Can you still repair it?

Possibly. Many products stay in production for several years and can be sourced by pattern name from the box label. If the line is discontinued, options are harvesting plank from a closet or under an appliance, or an intentional accent detail. We will show you what is realistic before starting.

My whole floor moved and there are gaps everywhere. Is that fixable?

Usually yes, and usually by correcting the constraint rather than replacing material — freeing a pinched perimeter, removing fasteners driven through the plank, adding an expansion break in an overlong run, then closing the field back up.

Do you handle insurance work?

We provide itemized scope and documentation suitable for a claim. We do not negotiate with your carrier on your behalf.
