How to Prepare Your Home for LVP Installation Day
A short, honest checklist of what to do before the crew arrives, what we handle, and what actually slows a job down.
Before the material arrives
Material needs to acclimate in the space where it will be installed, at the temperature the room will normally be kept. That means the house has to be at normal living temperature — not turned down while you are away — for the acclimation period and through installation.
Boxes get stacked flat in the room, not stood on end and not left in an unheated garage. Leave room for that stack.
What to clear
- Empty closets in the rooms being floored, including the shelves you cannot reach
- Remove breakables, electronics, and anything on furniture that will be moved
- Take down items hanging on walls in the work zone — plank cutting and tear-out cause vibration
- Clear a parking spot near the entry we will use for material and debris
- Plan where pets will be, away from the work area and open exterior doors
What we handle
Furniture and appliance moving by arrangement, existing floor tear-out and haul-away, subfloor prep, door casing undercuts, transitions, and base or shoe as scoped. We contain dust at the cut station and clean the work zone daily.
Toilets, gas appliance disconnects and any plumbing or gas work are coordinated with the appropriate licensed trade — we will tell you clearly if your job needs one.
What actually slows jobs down
Three things, in order: subfloor conditions discovered after tear-out that were not visible during the estimate, material shortages when the ordered quantity did not include enough waste allowance for a diagonal or herringbone layout, and access problems — no parking, locked gates, or nobody home to let the crew in.
The first is why we ask to look under a corner of the existing floor during the estimate whenever you will allow it.
